How to avoid paying out £25k in disability discrimination.

Home Bargains reportedly paid out £25k in a disability discrimination case last week.

In these economic times, I don’t think any employer has that sort of money to spare.

Wondering how to avoid this? Here’s some tips:

1. If your employees discuss reasonable adjustments with you, GREAT! Well done on them being psychologally safe enough to talk to you. If none of your employees are disabled... well something is up. Scope estimates 23% of working age adults are disabled.

2. If you agree reasonable adjustments, keep a record, uphold them and review them. One conversation is not enough.

3. Don’t use language like ‘play the disabled card’ (like in the case below). Obvvvv. You’re a decent person, right? If you want to brush up on inclusive language, pop over to https://lnkd.in/eUwuXJPy.

4. Celebrate the benefits of having a diverse workforce. You know, increased productivity, innovation and staff morale. Go you!

5. Invest your savings of £25k into more inclusion training, naturally.
