The week I broke up with my laptop.

Dear Dell Latitude (Refurbished model, Water-Damaged, USB on the left not working),

It’s not you. It’s not even me. COVID is to blame (shocker).

We’ve been through a lot together this past year.

Remember the philosophy and arts festival last May when this was all a novelty?

Remember the baby shower, the big birthday bashes, the dance classes, the house moving research, the leaving doos, the team building days, the onboarding, the starting your own website…

You were really there for me when times were hard.

And I adore you for that.

But, something has been coming for a long time now.

I think we need to spend some time apart. For both our sakes.

This week, we naturally were separated as I took some time out from working.

And I’ve not missed you.

I’ve enjoyed being more causal. I’ve enjoyed spending just the evenings together, picking you up for scrolling now and again.

I want to see other people. Real people. Dance class was just so much better in real life. I have the chance to do meetings in person which is efficient, has less eye strain and builds better relationships.

We’ll keep in frequent contact. Daily. Just not constantly.

I’ll never forget what we have been through together.

Yours, with the recovering eye strain,

Lynn
