Work With Boards

Working with boards and committees lets Lynn deploy her passion for strategy and policy. A skilled contributor and facilitator, Lynn ensures that meetings are productive and inclusive, balancing diverse viewpoints. See below for more information on this work.

Policy, Strategy and Engagement Lead, Mobility and Access Committee for Scotland (MACS)

When? 2023-present

What happened? In 2023, Lynn was appointed to MACS and now leads on the workstream of Policy, Strategy and Engagement. Central to this role is the ability to ‘speak’ policy professional and have direct involvement with disabled people and disabled people’s organisations (DPOs).

Some examples of Lynn’s work:

  • Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodivergence Bill: Using skills in inclusive communications, Lynn brought together the committee and conveyed the key points (condensed from over 190 pages of information!). Armed with Sharpies, she translated these points into simple doodles (example below) which she used as a ‘hook’ in communications. She attended sessions from other charities to gain wider perspectives on the issues and then met with the Scottish Government Policy Team to share insights.

  • Engagement plan and DPO engagement: To better hear the views of disabled people, it was identified that DPOs are gatekeepers and we should invest time in developing relationships with key DPO contacts. This was done via: a personalised email campaign, social media connections, attending in person and online events, setting up introduction round-tables and sharing our annual report. The publication of the Spinal Injuries Scotland article (below) is an example of our established relationships.

  • Scrutiny at Board Meetings: Using her open and curious nature, Lynn adds value even when exploring challenging issues, seen in feedback from the Convenor, ‘Lynn has an easy going, helpful and non-confrontational nature that helps others feel relaxed even when she is questioning.’
